During our first visit to the Govern Psy School, we saw the tremendous dedication of the teachers, but also a severe lack of resources. Without lockers, teaching materials were easily damaged. Thanks to the first donations, we have installed sturdy, lockable lockers. For the 48 students and their teachers, this meant the transition from chaos to structure; their valuable books are now finally safe.
Water for the school
The search for water was a nerve-wracking adventure. After a dry run at 50 meters, we took the gamble to go deeper. At a depth of 60 meters, the drill finally broke through the rocks and water gushed upwards. It was a moment of pure release. The school now has its own lifeline in the dry ground of Mpumalanga, the foundation for everything we are going to build.
Materials for school
The biggest barrier to quality education at the moment is the lack of basic materials. Many children have to share their assignments because there are not enough notebooks or pens, and textbooks are a rarity. We want to ensure that every student has their own set of materials to work with. With a contribution of €25, we provide a child with the necessary notebooks, pens, and books for an entire school year.
Electricity on school
Without electricity, the school is limited to what can be written on a blackboard. There is no light on cloudy days and no possibility to use digital tools, such as a printer or laptop. We want to provide the classrooms with basic power and lighting. For €50, you help us install safe wiring so that the school can finally go ‘online’ and the children gain access to the world outside the village.
Health on school
You cannot learn well if you are thirsty or feel unsafe. Although our water source is a huge victory, we must now translate this into hygiene within the school itself. We need doors for the toilet blocks and working taps for washing hands. This prevents absenteeism and ensures that the children can focus fully on their lessons. With €40, you help us secure a toilet area safely and hygienically.
It’s about giving something back.
About creating chances where they are needed most.
Because every small improvement changes more than we can see.
